When the density of XPS does not exceed 40kg/m³, its compressive strength can reach 350-700 kPa, and it is almost unaffected when immersed in water. The insulation for cold storage floors generally requires a compressive strength of ≥200kPa, while high-quality XPS specifically designed for cold storage can achieve a measured compressive strength of over 500kPa, fully capable of withstanding repeated crushing by forklifts.

This is the underestimated advantage of XPS: its insulation performance maintains over 95% of its initial value after 5 years of use, and still maintains over 80% after 50 years - this is the only insulation material that can achieve this:

(1). Stable chemical properties, no aging, no decomposition, no mildew;

(2). Operating temperature range: -50℃ to +75℃, covering the full temperature range from freezing (-18℃ and below) to refrigeration (0-4℃).

Compared to polyurethane: over time, the components evaporate, leading to a decrease in both insulation and flame retardancy, and the material becomes brittle and powdery - this is the truth behind why PU cold storage "uses more and more electricity as it ages".


6. Fire Safety: Class B1 Flame Retardant, the Baseline Guarantee for Cold Chain Scenarios

Fire prevention is a rigid demand in cold chain environments where chemicals such as disinfectants and defrosting agents are present.

The XPS flame-retardant type can achieve a B1 level of flame resistance (self-extinguishing upon removal from a fire), meeting the GB8624-2012 standard. Unlike PU, which experiences a significant decline in insulation performance after the addition of flame retardants, and where the flame retardants can evaporate over time without producing toxic or harmful gases during combustion.
